Dollar Skids Against Yen

The dollar dropped sharply against the yen Wednesday after Japan’s top banker suggested its rebounding economy will push up domestic interest rates, which would give the Japanese currency a boost.

The dollar also ended lower against the German mark and most other currencies, despite new signs of declining interest rates in Europe.

In late New York trading, the dollar was worth 106.91 yen, down from 107.57 yen at the same time Tuesday. The dollar also traded at 1.4824 German marks, down from 1.4827 marks late Tuesday.
