Republicans are gunning for all three District 7 legislative seats now held by veteran Democratic lawmakers.
District 7 includes St. Maries and the eastern part of Latah County.
John Ferris of St. Maries is running for the seat now held by influential Democrat Sen. Marguerite McLaughlin, D-Orofino. McLaughlin has served seven terms in the Senate and two in the state House of Representatives.
Retired University of Idaho professor Homer Ferguson, a resident of tiny Ahsahka, near the Dworshak Reservoir north of Orofino, is challenging thirdterm Rep. Chuck Cuddy, D-Orofino. Cuddy is an engineering consultant.
St. Maries logger Patrick Petrie is seeking the seat held by retired schoolteacher Rep. June Judd, D-St. Maries. Judd, whose bill to ban jackedup pickup trucks passed the House but died in the Senate this year, is in her third term. Unlike Cuddy and McLaughlin, Judd has not yet filed for reelection.
District 7 is one of Idaho’s largest and most thinly populated legislative districts. It includes sections of Benewah, Latah, Lewis, Idaho, Nez Perce and Clearwater counties.
