Jean Cassani Spokane
Service for Jean (Barr) Cassani, 80, will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be at a later date.
Mrs. Cassani, who died Monday, was born in England.
She immigrated to San Francisco in the mid 1920s with her family.
In 1942, she married Anthony Cassani, and they lived in California and Oregon before they moved their family to Spokane in 1971.
She worked as a stenographer.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony Cassani; one son, Steven Cassani of Manhattan, Mont.; and two grandchildren.
Lucille DeVleming Spokane
Memorial service for Lucille E. DeVleming, 85, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at The Cathedral of St. John The Evangelist. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. DeVleming died Wednesday from complications of a brain hemorrhage. She was born in Bemidji, Minn.
She moved to Spokane as a child and graduated from North Central High School.
She married Philip DeVleming in 1932.
Mrs. DeVleming had been the director of Dasidrian Talent Club for 14 years. She was a member of St. John’s Church Altar Guild, Bishop Wells Guild and St. Frances Guild. She was also a member of St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary and St. George’s School Flowerfield Association.
She is survived by her husband, Philip DeVleming; three sons, Robert DeVleming of Lewiston, and David and Thomas DeVleming, both of Spokane; one daughter, Suzanne DeVleming of Loon Lake, Wash.; two sisters, Marjorie Martin and Genevieve Bowman, both of Spokane; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to St. George’s School Flowerfield Association.
Sherry Campbell Sandpoint
Service for Sherry June “Simmons” Campbell, 62, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Interment will be in Seneacquoteen Cemetery near Sandpoint. Mrs. Campbell, who was born in Utah, died Tuesday.
She moved to Sandpoint in 1968 and worked as a nurse at Mountainside Care Center.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, John; two sons, Dan and Jack Campbell, both of Sandpoint; a daughter, Cathy Renfro of Bellingham; three brothers, DeWayne, Gerald and Darold , all of Utah; one sister, Julia Robbins of Pocatello, Idaho; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Lawrence Murphy Spokane
Private service will be held for Lawrence A. Murphy, 62. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Murphy, who died Tuesday, was born in Topeka, Kan.
He served in the Air Force for 13 years, including during the Korean War, and had lived in Spokane for 28 years.
He is survived by two sons, Daniel and Donald Murphy, both of Spokane; one brother, Mike Murphy of Four Lakes; and two sisters, LeMoyne Hall and Catherine Armstrong, both of Glen Ellen, Calif.
Kenneth Spear Spokane
A private memorial service for Kenneth G. Spear, 66, will be held at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.
Mr. Spear, who was born in Los Angeles, died Sunday.
He had lived in Spokane for 22 years and worked as a heavy equipment operator in construction.
Mr. Spear is survived by four sons, Kenneth Salas and Robert Spear, both of Spokane, Daniel Spear of Asotin, Wash., and Lloyd Spear of Detroit; one daughter, Carolyn Salas of Spokane; one brother, Richard Spear of Calif.; and three grandchildren.
John Reed Pinehurst, Idaho
Memorial service for John L. Reed, 77, will be today at 2 p.m. at the Pinehurst Community Baptist Church. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Reed, who was born in Missouri, died Sunday.
He served with the 13th Air Force 42nd Bombardment Group, 456 Ordinance Company, in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He moved to the Silver Valley in 1948 and worked as a machinist for the Bunker Hill Co. before retiring in 1981 after 33 years.
He was a member of the Bunker Hill 20-Year Club, the senior and mixed bowling leagues, and the Baptist Church.
Mr. Reed’s survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ruth; one son, Gene Reed of New York, N.Y.; three daughters, Janet Morrison of Pinehurst, Mary Ann Iott of New Guinea and Tina Halepeska of Spokane; one brother, Eugene Reed of Missouri; three sisters, Velma McMurtrey and Merle Burge, both of Missouri, and Mava Brown of Arkansas; and nine grandchildren.

Magdalene ‘Margaret’ Neumiller Sprague, Wash.
Memorial service for Magdalene “Margaret” Neumiller, 77, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Graveside committal of the urn will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-Cheney is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Neumiller, who died Saturday, was born in Mobridge, S.D.
She moved to Spokane in 1941 and to Sprague 30 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church.
Her husband of 58 years, Edward Neumiller, died in November.
She is survived by one daughter, Arlene Copeland of Tyler; three sons, Jack Neumiller of Spokane, and Vernon and Douglas Neumiller, both of Veradale; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Spokane Unit; or to the Sprague Paramedic Unit.
Amelia ‘Belle’ Hearin Lakeland, Fla.
Graveside service for Amelia “Belle” Hearin, 88, is planned for 1 p.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hearin, a former Spokane resident, died Saturday in Lakeland, Fla., where she had lived for the past year and a half.
She was born in Washtucna, Wash.
Mrs. Hearin was a sales clerk for J.C. Penney Co. for more than 20 years.
She was a member of North Hill Christian Church.
Her husband, Russell Hearin, died in 1985.
She is survived by one son, Harvey “Bud” Griffith of Lakeland; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Clark Sloggy Spokane
Visitation for Clark Vernon Sloggy, 84, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeNorth. Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mr. Sloggy, a 49-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday. He was born in Orchard Avenue, Wash.
He was a maintenance mechanic at Kaiser Aluminum in Mead for 29 years and retired in 1976.
He was a member of North Hill Christian Church.
Mr. Sloggy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Fleta Sloggy; three daughters, Rebecca Sloggy and Jacqueline Williams, both of Spokane, and Sherry Severa of Buhl, Idaho; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Beulah Brown Spokane
Graveside service for Beulah E. Brown, 84, will be at 11 a.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Funeral service will follow at noon at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Brown, who died Monday, was born in Milnor, N.D.
She was raised in Havre, Mont., and moved to Spokane in the late 1930s. She worked as a banquet waitress at the Desert Hotel and the Davenport Hotel.
She was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway.
Her husband of 59 years, Ernest Brown, died in 1991.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Brown of Vancouver, Wash., and Jerry Brown of Kirkland, Wash.; eight brothers and sisters, three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church.
Edward Cockhill Spokane
No service will be held for Edward A. Cockhill, 75. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Cockhill, who was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, died Monday.
He moved to the United States when he was young and was a longtime resident of Fargo, N.D., where he graduated from high school.
He served in the Marines during World War II and received a Purple Heart.
He worked as a parts salesman for Ford Motor Co. in North Dakota for 10 years and had worked in the parts department at Spokane’s McCollum Ford for many years before retiring in 1984.
Mr. Cockhill was a member of Spokane Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435 and the American Legion.
He is survived by four daughters, Briana Bradley of Spokane, Jackie Bates of Cumberland, Maine, Cindy Ketler of Tacoma and Barbara Cockhill of Butte, Mont.; three sons, Bruce Cockhill of Vancouver, Wash., Bradley Cockhill of Butte and Brian Cockhill of Helena; one brother, Jack Cockhill of Chicago; and 16 grandchildren.

Richard Balfe Spokane
Memorial service for Richard Dean Balfe, 44, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash. Private burial will be at Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Mr. Balfe, a former Ritzville and Sprague, Wash., resident, died Tuesday from cancer. He was born in Spokane.
He moved to Ritzville after his father died. A graduate of Ritzville High School, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Marengo, Wash.
In 1974 he began working out of Tekoa, Thornton, and Colfax, Wash. He moved to Portland in 1987 and retired from the railroad in 1992, due to an injury.
He returned to Spokane in May 1992.
Mr. Balfe was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees and the United Transportation Union.
Survivors include four brothers, Bob, Clayton and Bernard Balfe, all of Sprague, and Tom Balfe of Ritzville.

Ruth Peterson Colville, Wash.
Memorial service for Ruth Davis Peterson, 96, will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at United Church of Christ in Chewelah, Wash. Burial will be at Evergreen-Washelli Memorial Park in Seattle.
Mrs. Peterson, who died last Friday, She was born in Pattonsburg, Mo.
She and her family traveled by wagon train to Chewelah when she was 2 years old.
She graduated from high school in Chewelah.
She worked for Western Union Telegraph Co. in Spokane for 25 years. She and her husband, Gordon Peterson, later operated grocery stores in Seattle until he died in 1965.
Mrs. Peterson had lived with her daughter, Betty Lou LaVigne, at Black Lake, northeast of Colville, for the past 20 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Lou; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Judy Van Gundy Spokane
Memorial services for Judith Ann Van Gundy, 63, is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Crestline Church of the Nazarene. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Valentine, Neb., Mrs. Van Gundy died last Friday at home.
She moved to Spokane in 1957 and operated Judy Van Gundy’s Day Care Center for 12 years. She had previously worked as a preschool teacher.
Mrs. Van Gundy was a member of Crestline Church of the Nazarene, the Preschool Teachers Association, the Washington State Day Care Association and the China Painting Group.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Duane Van Gundy; one son, James Van Gundy, and one daughter, Diana Bailey, both of Spokane; one brother, Don Wilkinson of Scottsbluff, Neb.; and four grandchildren.
