Maine Gives Perot Green Light To Run

Compiled From Wire Services

Legislation clearing the way for Ross Perot’s Reform Party to attain official status in Maine was signed into law Friday by Gov. Angus King.

The new law allows the Maine secretary of state to declare that the Reform Party filed enough valid signatures to qualify.

Maine Secretary of State Bill Diamond originally rejected the Reform Party’s petitions, saying organizers had fallen short of the number required by law. The Reform Party went to court to contest the ruling.
