Woman Killed In Wreck Vehicular Homicide Charges Considered Against Husband
A Liberty Lake man is being investigated for vehicular homicide after his wife was killed in a car wreck Thursday.
Washington State Patrol troopers may recommend that charges be filed against 49-year-old Jerry Martin, 414 N. Village Lane, Lt. Bruce Clark said Friday.
Prosecutors can get a vehicular homicide conviction if they can show a driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs or driving in a reckless manner in a crash that kills someone.
Martin was driving his 1930 Ford hot rod at high speed when he lost control and crashed about 6:45 p.m. His wife, Sally, 41, died in the accident.
Jerry Martin sustained a concussion and was listed in satisfactory condition at Sacred Heart Medical Center on Friday.
The wreck occurred near Valleyway and Molter Road in Liberty Lake, Clark said.
The Martins were traveling west on Valleyway when Jerry Martin attempted to pass another vehicle.
An oncoming car forced Martin to change lanes in a hurry, and he lost control.
The Ford slid south across Valleyway, rolled through a chain-link fence and plowed into a tree on the Liberty Lake Golf Course.
