Plan Would Shift School Boundaries

Several hundred children will attend different schools next year if the school board accepts a proposal presented Monday night.

Using color-coded maps that made the board room look a bit like a war room, the director of elementary education explained the plan. It’s meant to relieve overcrowding in some schools, such as Ramsey and Hayden Lake. At the same time, it would fill up Sorensen and Bryan elementaries.

The board will vote on the boundary changes April 22, Bauman said.

The proposal was produced by a committee chaired by two parents. It would:

Move 67 students from Winton to Sorensen. Those affected live in the Lincoln Way corridor.

Move 92 students from Borah to Bryan. Those affected live in North Pine Hills subdivision.

Move 45 students from Ramsey to Borah. Those affected live from Fruitland Lane east to U.S. Highway 95.

Move 65 students from Ramsey to Winton. Those affected live in Indian Meadows subdivision.

Move 42 students from Ramsey to Winton. Those affected live in Howards Addition.

Move 20 students from Dalton to Hayden Meadows. Those affected live along South Hayden Lake Road.

Move 12 students from Bryan to Sorensen. Those affected live in the Government Way/Harrison vicinity.

Move 30 students from Hayden Lake Elementary to Hayden Meadows. Those affected live north of Lancaster Road.
