Turkey Launches Attack On Kurds

Compiled From Wire Services

Turkish troops, taking advantage of a spring thaw and a unilateral cease-fire by Kurdish rebels, have launched a large-scale offensive that has killed 90 rebels and 27 soldiers in three days, authorities reported Monday.

The casualties from the battles, which began Friday night, were the highest since the rebels declared a truce in December.

Fighting broke out in the southeastern provinces of Diyarbakir, Mardin, and Siirt and the eastern province of Bingol, the government said.

Clashes continued Monday evening around the towns of Lice in Diyarbakir and Genc in Bingol.
