Mexico’s Population Moving To Cities

Compiled From Wire Services

Mexico is increasingly an urban country, with seven of 10 residents living in cities, according to a federal report cited by the government’s Notimex news agency.

At the start of the century, only one in 10 Mexicans lived in a city.

The National Program for Urban Development said that many of the new urban residents lack basic services such as water or sewage, Notimex reported Tuesday.

The greatest growth now appears to be in medium-sized cities. Population growth in the large metropolitan areas such as Mexico City now trails that of the nation as a whole.
