Area Graduates Sign Up For Military Training

Scott S. Maas, a 1995 graduate of Lakeland High School, recently enlisted in the Army’s Delayed Entry Program as a combat engineer.

Maas, son of Marie and Duane Ulbright of Athol, joined the Army to earn more money and meet physical and mental challenges. He leaves for Korea this month.

Naaman G. Strom, a 1994 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School, recently enlisted in the Army’s Delayed Entry Program.

Strom, son of Neil and Nancy Strom of Hayden Lake and husband of Justyne of Post Falls, qualifies for up $14,998 toward full-time schooling.

Strom joined the Army for skill training, experience and money for college and leaves for basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., this month.

Jodi M Kunkel, a 1994 graduate of Lakeland High School, recently enlisted in the Army as a crane operator.

Kunkel, daughter of Linda and Gregory Kunkel, recently left for basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Ryan L. Graham, a 1994 graduate of Post Falls High School, recently enlisted in the infantry in the Army’s Delayed Entry Program.

Graham, son of Sheire and Ron Graham of Post Falls, qualifies for up to $20,000 for college and joined the Army for travel and adventure. He’s at Fort Benning, Ga.

Judson L. Girdley, a 1995 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School, recently enlisted in the Army Reserve as a heavy construction equipment operator.

Girdley, son of David Girdley of Meridian, Idaho, and Lujeanne Swanson of Coeur d’Alene, joined the Army Reserve for money for college and recently left to be a member of the 659th Engineer Company in Spokane.

Jeremy R. Witt, a 1992 graduate of North Idaho College, recently enlisted in the Army’s Delayed Entry Program as an automated-logistics specialist.

Witt, son of Candice Smith of Bonners Ferry and Gary Witt of Wyoming, lives with his wife, Gretchen, in Bonners Ferry and left for basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., in February.
