Dogs Kill Wallabies At Zoo

Associated Press

Two wallabies at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo were attacked and killed, apparently by dogs from nearby neighborhoods, a zoo spokeswoman said Friday.

Two kangaroos that apparently tried to flee the attack injured themselves and had to be destroyed.

Distinctive teeth marks on the wallabies’ carcasses indicated that one or more dogs attacked the Australian animals, which resemble small kangaroos, said Sue Allen, a spokeswoman for the 165-acre zoo.

Because the wallabies were not eaten, the zoo believes they were attacked by pets from nearby neighborhoods rather than by strays running wild.
