Home Run Allows Nc To Defeat Lewis And Clark

North Central’s Jared Starr hit an opposite-field home run in the top of the eighth inning to provide the Indians with a come-from-behind 11-10 Greater Spokane League baseball win against Lewis and Clark at Hart Field on Friday.

Trailing 9-3 in the top of the seventh, NC (1-6) took a 10-9 lead with the help of five consecutive hits and two walks. Jeremy Hare contributed a two-run double and Starr singled in two runs.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers tied it at 10 when Ian Monroe’s sacrifice fly scored Ramon Canton.

LC (0-7) collected just six hits, but NC pitchers walked nine.

In a key GSL matchup, Mead (5-2) snapped Gonzaga Prep’s four-game win streak with a 10-1 victory and pulled within a half-game of the first-place Bullpups (6-2) in the standings.

Mead’s Rod Elmer scattered five hits and walked only one batter in his first win of the season.

With a 4-1 lead, the Panthers broke open the game in the bottom of the sixth when Grant Reeves hit a two-run homer. Then, after two were out, pinch-hitter Jim Geyer connected for a two-run double.

In other games, University defeated Rogers 15-5 and Ferris beat Shadle Park 7-3.

Ferris, Shadle and U-Hi tied Mead with 5-2 records.

At Seafirst Stadium, U-Hi capitalized on 10 walks issued by Rogers (2-5) pitchers.

Chris Kreider drove in three runs with two hits, and Brett Haiar had three hits and two RBIs, as the Titans rallied from a 5-3 deficit.

At Al K. Jackson Field, Ferris’ Brandon Mollett drove in four runs with two homers. The Highlanders’ Joe Walters had three hits in a losing cause.

U-Hi (6-1) bounced back from its Thursday loss to Mead with a 6-0 road triumph over Rogers (2-5).

With the Titans clinging to a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth, Stephani Shelton doubled with the bases loaded to drive in two runs and ensure the win.

In other games, Mead beat G-Prep 8-1, Ferris defeated Shadle 13-2 and NC edged LC 6-3.

At Mead (7-0), Holly Vanwert raised her record to 5-0 with 13 strikeouts and hit a three-run, second-inning homer. Holly Turner also homered for the Panthers. G-Prep (5-3) collected just three hits off Vanwert.

At Shadle (1-6), Ferris (2-5) received two-hit pitching from Kylee Curry, who had two hits of her own. Shadle committed 13 errors.

At Hart Field, Denise Devereaux of NC (5-2) scattered seven hits and struck out nine as she moved her record to 2-0. The Tigers fell to 0-7.

Tarrah Brown picked up both wins as Colville’s Indians scored 10-7 and 15-3 victories over visiting Cheney.
