Ryan Cross lives as an inspiration

It has been said that you really don’t know how much a person has impacted your life or the lives of others until they are gone. This is even true when the person is very young.

One young man made such a lasting impression on his fellow teammates, that the entire track and field team at University High School has dedicated their season to him. His name was Ryan Cross.

As my son put it, he was very popular at school because he never put anyone down, and could always find something good in everyone. He encouraged the underclassmen to work hard and never give up on their goals.

Even in death he is an inspiration.

When you see a kid with the words “I believe in the Cross” on the back of his shirt, remember these words from the poem “One Person Can Make a Difference.”

“This is dedicated to the child who is always alive within each of us; who sees no obstacles, no problems, or negativity; who is not blocked by hurtful experience of the past; who trusts, and has faith in love; who always knows that our purpose is to give love to others; to accept love for ourselves; and to know that happiness, and joy are truly our natural state of being.”

This poem was in the memorial folder at Ryan’s memorial service. Cheryl Knighton Spokane

Why suddenly now for mail-in election?

As an outsider, I’m curious about the “temporary law” mentioned in your article about the “mail-in” ballot idea for the upcoming May 21 incorporation election.

Why was it instituted? Since the saving of up to 50 percent of election costs was listed in the article, why was it not used before now, here, since it’s been in existence two years? Where was it used? On the coast? If somewhere else, why has the county auditor suddenly decided to use it for the incorporation election, when our own commissioners had already decided the thing?

When is the county auditor coming up for election? Carol Rockstrom Otis Orchards
