Richard Pedey Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Service for Richard G. Pedey, 65, will be today at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Bonners Ferry.

Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pedey, who was born in Montana, died Tuesday.

He grew up and attended schools in Bonners Ferry and Copeland, Idaho, later serving in the Army in Korea.

After his military discharge he returned to North Idaho and worked in the timber industry. He later moved to the Silver Valley and worked in the mines before returning to Bonners Ferry in 1963.

He retired from the timber industry in the 1980s due to health problems.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Shirley; seven children, Monte Hawks and Rhonda Damon, both of Riggins, Idaho, Steven Hawks and Tracie Bennett, both of Bonners Ferry, Shannon Zipfel of Spokane, Toni Schmidt of Creston, British Columbia, and Shelley Munson of Sandpoint; three brothers, Vic Pedey of Spokane, Frank Pedey of Oregon and Harvey Pedey of Bonners Ferry; two sisters, Eileen Fairchild of Oregon and Phyllis Taylor of Spokane; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Ilene Spring Spokane

A memorial celebration of life for Ilene Spring, 69, will be today at 2 p.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Inurnment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.

Mrs. Spring, who was born in South Dakota, died last Saturday. She moved to Sandpoint in 1935, and later owned J and R Woodworking until she retired in 1990. She recently moved to Spokane.

She was a member of St. Agnes Episcopal Church, Beta Sigma Phi and the Women Elks Golf Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim. Survivors include a son, Dennis Spring of Sandpoint; a daughter, Jan Carter of Spokane; three brothers, Jack, Jay and Butch Shaffer; four sisters, Billie, Darlene, Zola and Zeola; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

John Watson Blanchard, Idaho

Service for John A. Watson, 84, will be at 11 a.m. today at Newport (Wash.) Assembly of God. Burial will follow at Blanchard Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Watson, who was born in Worchester, Mass., died Sunday at home.

He had lived in Seattle and Tacoma and moved to Oldtown, Idaho, in 1939. He moved to the Tri Cities six months later to take a job at Hanford. He returned to Seattle for a time, and had lived on the family farm in Blanchard for the past 20 years.

He worked as a welder, sheetmetal worker and layman.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Hazel; three sons, John Watson Jr., of Blanchard, Auggie Watson of Spokane and Timothy Watson of Seattle; three daughters, Betty-Ann Barley of Blanchard, Jo-Anne Miehm of British Columbia, and Grace-Ellen Dolly of Seattle; one brother, I.J. Watson of Deer Park; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Wilma Long Bothell, Wash.

Graveside service with burial of the urn for Wilma W. Long, a former longtime Spokane resident, will be at 11 a.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Long, who was born in Spokane, died April 1 in Bothell, Wash., where she had lived for a year. She was 80.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

She was a homemaker and had worked for Washington Water Power as a home economist, and later worked as a craft teacher with the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department and the YWCA.

Mrs. Long was a member of the Postal Clerks Wives Auxiliary, and Fourth Memorial Church in Spokane.

Her husband, Roy Long, died in 1984.

She is survived by two daughters, Frances Uthmann of Bothell and Phalice Van Der Pol of Redmond, Wash.; one son, William Long of Spokane; one brother, Frank Wright of Spokane; one sister, Phalice Ayers of Spokane; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Robert Becker Jr. Post Falls

Service for Robert J. Becker Jr., 55, will be today at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Becker, who was born in South Dakota, died Wednesday.

He grew up and graduated from high school in Lewiston, later serving in the Air Force for eight years. He returned to Lewiston after his military discharge and worked for Potlatch.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1975 and had worked at Kaiser Aluminum for the past nine years.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Karmon; three sons, Darrick and Darcy Becker, both of Post Falls, and David; two daughters, Sherry Williams of Washington and Lori Johnson of Idaho; his mother, Carole Becker of Lewiston; two brothers, Jim and Dick, both of Lewiston; five sisters, Evelyn Hill of Richland, Mary Bailey of Spokane, Judy Kelly and Averal Willard, both of Lewiston, and Lila Puckett of Nez Perce, Idaho; and numerous grandchildren.

Margaret Schmalz Spokane

Funeral Mass for Margaret S. Schmalz, 80, will be at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Schmalz, who was born in Stockett, Mont., died Sunday in Des Moines, Wash., where she had recently moved to be near her family.

She had lived in Spokane for 37 years and had been a sales leader with the American Automobile Association of Washington.

She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish.

Her husband of 55 years, David Schmalz, died in 1994.

She is survived by three sons, Harry Schmalz of San Francisco, Mark Schmalz of Seattle and Roger Schmalz of Woodacre, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Clarke Buckley Spokane

Visitation for Clarke E. Buckley, 98, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Buckley died Wednesday in Olympia, where he had lived for four years. He was born in Battle Creek, Mich.

He worked with fine printing in a silk screen company for many years.

He was a member of Christ’s Gospel Fellowship.

His wife, Marguerite, died in 1986.

Mr. Buckley is survived by one daughter, Mary Jane Allison of Olympia; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Jack Lautenschlager Ritzville, Wash.

Graveside service for Jack Lautenschlager, 86, a former St. John, Wash., resident, will be at 11 a.m. today at Endicott (Wash.) Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lautenschlager, who died Monday at the Life Care Center in Ritzville, was born in Endicott.

He worked for farmers and farmed in St. John most of his life. He retired in 1990 and moved to Dusty, Wash., for a short time, before he moved to Washtucna, Wash. He moved to the Life Care Center in 1993.

Survivors include one sister, Rachel Schneidmiller of Anaheim, Calif.
