Walter Ray Williams Jr. of Stockton, Calif., won his third Professional Bowlers Association title of the year, beating Steve Jaros 216-195 in the finals of the Johnny Petraglia Open in Piscataway, N.J.

At Liverpool, England, Mexico’s Jose Luis Lopez floored Ireland’s Eamonn Loughran three times in the first 51 seconds to claim the WBO welterweight title and South African Baby Jake Matlala retained his WBO light-flyweight title, stopping Scotland’s Paul Weir in the 10th round of a fight set for 12.

At Boston, unbeaten Dana Rosenblatt knocked out 1976 Olympic champion Howard Davis Jr. at 2:00 of the second round to capture the WBU middleweight title.

Cambridge won the top race in a regatta at Gainesvile, Ga., featuring Yale, Harvard and Oxford for the first meeting between the four schools. But Harvard edged the Light Blues for the cup by winning five of eight races.
