Wrestling Director Vies For Spot

The head of USA Wrestling will compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic freestyle team as an athlete.

During a conference call, USA Wrestling’s executive committee endorsed a bid by USA Wrestling executive director Jim Scherr to make the 1996 Olympic team.

The committee has decided that Scherr will take a leave of absence on the days he is competing, and will appoint an interim director from the organization’s national staff to fill in during his absences.
