Boston Market Restaurants Planned For Argonne, Sprague

Colorado-based Boston Market, which hopes to open two new Valley restaurants by late June, began accepting employment applications on Monday.

The restaurants specialize in rotisserie chicken, ham and turkey dinners and sandwiches. Until early 1995, the chain was known as Boston Chicken. The name was changed to show the chain’s wider variety of menu choices.

Both Valley restaurants will be 2,781 square feet in size, county records show. One will be at 2026 N. Argonne, the other will be at 13920 E. Sprague, in front of the Evergreen-area Safeway store.

Chris Dickinsen, a spokeswoman with the company’s regional offices in Bellevue, said the Sprague eatery will open June 24. The company hopes to open the Argonne restaurant that same week, Dickinsen said. Even in a worse-case scenario, the Argonne Boston Market would still open in early July.

The home-style image is important to the chain, Dickinsen said. Microwaves aren’t used for any preparation.

“We don’t want to replace mom, but we want to replace her cooking,” Dickinsen said.

Whole sandwiches go for $3.49 to $3.99. Half-sandwiches start at $2.29. Large “family meals” - which serve anywhere from two to six people - range from $12.99 to $23.99.

The company will hire about 50 employees to staff each restaurant. About half of those will be full-time.

James Besseau, general manager of Boston Market’s Sprague restaurant, said interviews will be conducted six weeks from now. Four of the openings are for shift managers, and those hired for those slots will be sent to Portland for training.

Applications can be picked up Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sprague construction site.

The company is expanding rapidly, with nearly 900 restaurants open across the country as of last month. On average, at least one new Boston Market opens somewhere on a given business day.

Dickinsen said Boston Market is planning three more restaurants in the Inland Northwest. Definite sites haven’t been decided on, but spots near Regal and 29th and Division and Francis would be preferable, she said. One restaurant is planned for Coeur d’Alene. The company hopes to have those restaurants in operation by the end of the year.
