Sharon Deffenbaugh Rathdrum, Idaho

Vigil service for Sharon Marie Deffenbaugh, 46, will be today at 7:30 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Pius Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Deffenbaugh, who was born in Fresno, Calif., died Monday from injuries received in an automobile accident on Interstate 90 near Spokane.

She grew up and was educated in Fresno, later graduating from Nursing School at San Bernardino Valley College.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1978 and began a nursing career at Kootenai Medical Center.

She received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Lewis-Clark State College in 1994, most recently receiving her master’s degree in nursing and family nurse practitioner from Whitworth College in Spokane.

Mrs. Deffenbaugh was a member of the Idaho Nursing Association and the National Family Nurse Practitioner’s Association.

Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Jim; two daughters, Veronica “Nicki” Glaze of Anchorage, Alaska, and Viola “Vi” Ralston of Hawaii; her parents, Robert Tuggle of Fresno and Mary Tuggle, of Clovis, Calif.; one brother, Richard Tuggle of California; one sister, Debbie Tuggle of Fresno; and five grandchildren.

Shane Winnop Rathdrum, Idaho

Memorial service for Shane Lee Winnop, 23, will be today at 3 p.m. at St. Agnes Episcopal Church in Sandpoint. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Winnop, who was born in British Columbia, Canada, died Monday at home. He grew up and attended schools in Sandpoint, later graduating from the North Idaho College welding program.

He moved to Rathdrum last year and recently worked for Idaho Forest Industries in Post Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa; one daughter, Ashley, at home; his mother and stepfather, Charlene and Bob Nelson of Sandpoint; his father and stepmother, Larry “Sonny” and Susie Winnop of Colville, Wash.; grandparents, Forrest Davis of Montana, and Larry and Violet Winnop of Colville; two stepsisters, Kati and Cami Nelson, both of Sandpoint; and halfsister, Amber Winnop of Colville.

Daniel Shea Spokane

Vigil service for Daniel F. “Dan” Shea, 72, will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Charles Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is set for 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Shea died Monday. He was born in Butte, Mont.

He graduated from Butte Central High School and from Butte Business College.

He worked for the Montana Power Company from 1941 to 1948 and then worked for the Great Northern Railway and the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. He retired in 1985.

He married Marguerite “Lovey” Pressler in 1949 in Butte.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years; two sons, Dan Shea of Port Angeles, Wash., and John Shea of Winchester, Va.; three daughters, Maureen Coleman of Moscow, Idaho, Linda Shea of Spokane and Colleen Crowston of Yakima; one brother, Jerry Shea of Butte and seven grandchildren.

Gabrielle Tevis Spokane

Memorial service for Gabrielle G. Tevis, 97, will be at 11 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Tevis died Sunday. She was born in France.

She had lived in Long Beach, Calif., until 1983, when she moved to Spokane.

Her husband, John Tevis, died in 1976.

She is survived by one daughter, Armande Aller of Spokane; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Susie ‘Irene’ Olson Newport, Wash.

Graveside inurnment for Susie “Irene” Olson, 89, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Newport Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Olson, an 88-year Pend Oreille County resident, died Friday at Pend Oreille Pines Nursing Home in Newport. She was born in Alden, Iowa.

In the early 1900s, she and her family moved west and settled in the Cusick (Wash.) area. She married Frank Simpkins in Coeur d’Alene in 1923. They later divorced.

In 1934, she married Orrin Olson in Coeur d’Alene. He died in 1970. In 1971 she married Fred Kirkpatrick and he died in 1980.

She had worked at the Diamond Match Hotel in Cusick in the kitchen and dining room, as a house cleaner and as a bartender.

She was well known for her home baked cookies that she sold at the Earth Market on Saturdays.

Mrs. Olson was a member of World War I Auxiliary, American Legion 217 Auxiliary, Calispell Community Church in Cusick, Calispell Grange, Noble Grange, Royal Neighbors and Silver Birch Grandmothers Club.

She is survived by two sons, John Simpkins of Priest River, Idaho, and Dennis Olson of Newport; one daughter, Marlene Kirkpatrick of Magna, Utah; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Danell Phillips Orofino, Idaho

Service for Danell M. Phillips, 16, will be today at 4 p.m. at the Orofino High School Gymnasium. Burial will follow Friday at 11 a.m. at Fairmont Memorial Park Cemetery in Spokane. Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Phillips, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday of a cerebral hemorrhage.

She attended grade school in Spokane until moving to California. She moved to Orofino in 1992.

Miss Phillips was a sophomore at Orofino High School and was a member of Students Against Drunk Driving, the track team, Maniac Pride and the O.H.S. Newsletter.

She worked part time for Tripco and Pine Hills Funeral Chapels and was a volunteer during recent flooding.

Survivors include her parents, Joy and Ross Triplett of Orofino, and Donald and Sandra Phillips of Auburn, Wash.; one brother, Nicolls Phillips of Orofino; one stepbrother, Matthew Triplett of Spokane; one stepsister, Laura Triplett of California; and her grandparents, Gail and Carriebell Triplett of Orofino.

Joseph Siler Spokane

Graveside service for Joseph E. Siler, 93, will be at 10 a.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Siler, who was born in Molton, Iowa, died Monday.

He had worked as a baker in Iowa, South Dakota and in Spokane. He had been a Spokane resident since 1945 and also worked for Inland Monument Company.

He is survived by one son, Donald Siler of Oregon; two brothers, Garland Siler of Oregon and Dwight Siler of California; four sisters, Evelyn Baumgartner, Josephine Davis, Wilma Everett and Margaret Earl, all of California; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

David Scribner Spokane

Memorial service for David L. Scribner, 35, will be at 1 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Scribner, who was born in Spokane, died Monday at Sacred Heart Medical Center from pneumonia.

He graduated from West Valley High School in 1978 and from Christine’s School of Hair Fashion in 1981. He worked for several hair salons in the Spokane area until 1991.

Survivors include his father and stepmother Thomas and La Donna Scribner of Spokane; one brother, Kenneth; two sisters, Susan and Laura; and his grandparents, George and Velma Heimbigner.

Steve Severson Spokane

Memorial service for Doyle Willard “Steve” Severson, 73, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Severson, who died Monday, was born in Colfax, Wash.

He worked as a professional photographer for 50 years.

He was a combat aerial photographer with the 141st Washington State Air National Guard at Felts Field, and served in the Army during World War II with Army Air Corps - 91st Recon Squadron out of Fort Lewis.

He was a member of Shadle Park Lions Club, Southeast Lions Club, the Spokane Visitors and Convention Bureau, and was a board member of the Spokane Interstate Fair.

He is survived by his wife, Isabell; two sons, Michael Severson of Seattle and Dominic Severson of Simi Valley, Calif.; four daughters, Judy Courtney of Colbert, Terry Owens of Prosser, Wash., Patty High of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Toni Franks of Parris Island, S.C.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Nola Casey Spokane

Visitation for Nola M. Casey, 58, is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Casey died Tuesday. She was born in Ava, Mo.

She moved to Yakima in 1942 and to Spokane in 1976.

She graduated from high school in Selah, Wash.

She was a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother. She worked for Sears for 20 years.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Ray; two sons, Michael Casey of the Tri-Cities and Patrick Casey of Spokane; three daughters, Kathy Best of the Tri-Cities, and Teresa Wilhelm and Janice Parker, both of Spokane; her mother, Inez Graham of Yakima; two brothers, Marvin Graham of Walla Walla and C.R. Graham of Gleed, Wash.; one sister, Betty Clayton of the Tri-Cities; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

William Whinnen Spokane

Memorial service for William J. “Bill” Whinnen, 76, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be at Fairmount Mausoleum.

Born in Ducktown, Tenn., Mr. Whinnen died Monday.

He joined the Navy in 1942 and worked with his father and brother in the contract core drilling business after the war.

In the early 1960s, he moved to Spokane and became president of R.S. McClintock Co.

In 1964, he formed Whinnen Drilling Co., Inc. with his son, Billy. He retired several years ago.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Spokane Valley Scottish Rite Bodies, El Katif Shrine, Provost Guard Unit, and Grotto.

He was made an honorary life member of Northwest Mining Association and received the Starters Award for his contributions to the association.

His first wife, Millicient, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Iris; two daughters, Marilyn Breese of New York and Pamala Jean Schultz of Chicago; two stepdaughters, Cheri Fjermedal of Tacoma and Pamala Ratcliff of Seattle; one stepson, William Barnhart of Tacoma; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Wolodimir ‘Walt’ Kuprienko Priest River, Idaho

Service for Wolodimir “Walt” Kuprienko, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River.

Mr. Kuprienko, a 41-year Priest River resident, died Saturday at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born in Russia.

In 1946, he married Maria Horuna in Germany. They came to Oklahoma in 1952 and Mr. Kuprienko worked on a dairy farm. Two years later they moved to Priest River.

He worked for Olson’s Mill and at Diamond Lumber Mill, before retiring in 1981.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Walt Kuprienko of Newport, Wash., and Nick and John Kuprienko, both of Priest River; and 11 grandchildren.

Dorothy Fox Hayden Lake, Idaho

At her request, no service will be held for Dorothy T. Fox, 86. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fox, who was born in Wisconsin, died Monday.

She moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, in 1944 and owned a mink ranch. She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1960 and owned the Elite Hotel, retiring in 1969.

Mrs. Fox lived in Blanchard, Idaho, for 10 years following her retirement before moving to the Hayden Pines Mobile Park. She recently moved in with her daughter in Hayden.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Fred, in 1962.

Survivors include two daughters, Frieda McGlockin of Spokane and Virginia Moore of Hayden Lake; two brothers, Karl Mansfeldt of Michigan, and Fred Mansfeldt of California; half-sister, Wilma Engels of Washington; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Ruby (Rusch) Wright Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Service for Ruby Violet (Rusch) Wright, 68, will be Friday at 3 p.m. at the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home. Private interment will follow at a later date.

Mrs. Wright, who was born in Saskatchewan, died Thursday.

She lived in Canada until 1947 when she moved to various cities in Texas, Washington, Michigan and Idaho.

Mrs. Wright settled near Porthill, Idaho, before moving to Bonners Ferry in 1994. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Donald. Survivors include three children, Gail Wright and Donna Kent, both of Spokane, and Lee Wright of Alberta, Canada; and four brothers, Al Rusch of Bellingham, and Jim, Rob and Roy Rusch, all of British Columbia.

Katherine Patrick Spokane

Memorial service for Katherine Juanita Patrick, 70, is planned for 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Born in Coeur d’Alene, Mrs. Patrick died Saturday.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane for more than 28 years.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Faith and Lite Group and had been involved with clowning.

She is survived by six daughters, Yvonne Frue, Molly Lang and Heather Patrick all of Spokane, Collen Patrick, and Maureen Ramseyer both of San Diego, and Ginger Ryals of Korea; one son, Daniel McConnihie of San Diego; and eight grandchildren.

Donald Berry Spokane

No service will be held for Donald M. Berry, 74, at his request. There will be private burial at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Berry died Monday. He was born in Lakeside, Mont.

He was a 50-year Spokane resident and worked for Kaiser Aluminum for 33 years. He retired in 1983.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Berry; three stepsons, Keith Lyon of Mead, Rodney Lyon of Spokane and Mike Lyon of Chattaroy; one stepdaughter, Karen Johnson of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; one brother, Dean Berry of Spokane; six stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Kidney Center.

Harry Dorendorf Kellogg

Memorial service for Harry L. Dorendorf, 71, will be today at 10 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Kellogg. Inurnment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dorendorf, who was born in Southwick, Idaho, died Friday.

He moved to Kellogg as a child, and graduated from Kellogg High School. He worked as a cost accountant supervisor for the Bunker Hill Mining Co., retiring in 1982 after 22 years of service.

He was a member of the American Legion, Kellogg Elks, Senior Bowling League and the Powder Horn Bay Road Association.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Blondine; three daughters, Kathy Tams of St. Maries, Lynn Dorendorf of Michigan and Janet Dorendorf-Stone of Coeur d’Alene; brother, Marvin Dorendorf of Spokane; sister, Doris Stubbs of California; and five grandchildren.
