Clarinetist Kam With Symphony
Sharon Kam, winner of the 1992 Munich Clarinet Competition, will perform Copland’s Clarinet Concerto and Rossini’s Introduction, Theme and Variations with the Spokane Symphony tonight at the Opera House.
The symphony, led by music director Fabio Mechetti, will play Villa Lobos’ exotic tone poem “Dawn in a Tropical Forest” and Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2.
At 16, Kam, who grew up in Israel, made her orchestral solo debut with the Israel Philharmonic. Kam’s career has included performances with such major orchestras as the Berlin Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony and Tokyo Philharmonic.
Symphony clarinetist James Schoepflin will discuss the music on tonight’s program in a pre-concert talk at 7:30 in the Opera House auditorium.
The performance begins at 8 p.m. at the Opera House. Tickets are $12 to $27 at the Symphony Ticket Office (624-1200) and G&B Select-a-Seat outlets (325-SEAT and (800) 325-SEAT).
