Brown’s No-Hitter Keys Colville Sweep

Tarrah Brown threw a no-hitter and struck out 10 in the first game of a Frontier League softball doubleheader as Colville swept East Valley 4-1 and 6-2 at EV on Saturday.

Brown followed with a one-hitter in the second game. Brown’s no-hitter was her third of the season as she improved to 7-3.

Colville improved to 8-2 while East Valley fell to 5-4.

In the other Frontier contest, Cheney swept a pair at Riverside, 8-6 and 6-1. The Blackhawks (4-6) rallied from a 5-3 deficit in the first game and were never threatened in the second against the Rams (0-8).

At Pullman, the Greyhounds’ scheduled doubleheader against Clarkston was rained out. It will be played on Monday at 1 p.m.

Newport’s Kendra Eneroth threw a no-hitter in the second game of a doubleheader sweep at Colfax. Eneroth is 5-0 in the Northeast A League.

Baseball

In Greater Spokane League makeup games from Thursday, Central Valley beat Gonzaga Prep 7-3, Shadle Park defeated North Central 6-2 and Ferris dumped Rogers 16-4.

At Prep, CV (6-4) got 10 hits for the second straight game in winning its third in a row to climb back into the league race. G-Prep is also 6-4.

The Bears’ Ben Miller hit a two-run homer to tie the game at 3. In the top of the seventh, with the bases loaded, Raif Jochim’s triple provided the winning runs. Jochim later scored for the final tally.

At Shadle (7-3), the Highlanders’ Sean Hughes went the distance, scattering three hits and striking out seven. SP’s Joe Baune went 3 for 3 and scored two runs against NC (2-8).

At Ferris (7-2), the first-place Saxons capitalized on Rogers’ (2-8) pitching. Ferris got 16 hits off five Pirates’ pitchers, who combined to walk 12.

In the Frontier League, East Valley swept visiting Riverside, 12-11 and 7-2. In the first game, the Knights got the game-winning run off Bill Tincup’s RBI double. Tincup finished with five hits and four RBIs.

In the second game, EV (9-4) rallied in the bottom of the first after Riverside’s Josh Earle gave the Rams (0-13) a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer.

The Knights’ Tom Fox responded with a two-run double in the bottom of the first to give EV the lead for good.

Cheney’s game at Clarkston and West Valley’s game at Pullman were rained out. Both will be played Monday at 1 p.m.

Soccer

Cheney (8-3) got the game-winning score against Riverside/Deer Park (7-3) when Travis Skeman scored at the 30-minute mark in the first half of the Blackhawks’ 2-0 win at Deer Park.

At West Valley (7-1-2), Nick Young scored the first three goals for the Eagles and assisted on two more in an 8-1 route of Clarkston (1-7-2). Young registered the hat trick in the first 16 minutes of the game.

At Medical Lake, first-place East Valley (8-1-1) maintained a one-point lead over West Valley and Cheney as the Knights defeated the Cardinals (3-5-2), 4-1.
