Compiled From Wire Services

At the Olympic box-offs in Augusta, Ga., super heavyweight Lawrence Clay-Bey, battered to defeat 15 hours earlier, made the Olympic team, defeating Joe Mesi when the referee stopped the bout at 1:36 in the first round.

At Levallois, France, Jean-Baptiste Mendy of France won the vacant WBC lightweight title by taking a unanimous decision over American Lamar Murphy.

Virgil Hill defended his WBA light heavyweight title for the 19th time, winning a crafty 12-round unanimous decision over a brash Louis Del valle of New York at Grand Forks, N.D.

On the same card, Buster Mathis Jr. and Obed Sullivan fought to a four-round no-decision after Sullivan was cut by an accidental head butt during an IBF heavyweight bout.
