Ewu’s Timm, White Register Pair Of Victories

Eastern Washington’s Les Timm and Christian White were double winners Saturday at the Al Manuel Invitational at Missoula, Mont.

Timm won the men’s hammer throw at 199 feet, 10 inches and led an Eagles 1-2-3 sweep in the discus with a toss of 164-6.

White captured the women’s 100-meter run in 12.12 seconds and the 200 in 24.79.

Other EWU men’s winners were Andre Ervin, triple jump, 44-11, and Jeremy Oliver, shot put, 49-7-1/4.

For the Eagles women, Seville Broussard won the high jump at 5-8 and the 400 relay team won in 47.96.

Former University of Idaho runner Shelley Zickler, a Ferris High graduate, won the women’s 1,500 at the Bob Gibb Classic in Boise.

Zickler, running unattached, finished in 4 minutes, 31.4 seconds.

Washington State’s Brian Zieser won the pole vault at 15 feet, 6 inches - 6 inches better than the field.

In other women’s results, Cheska Fairbanks of Gonzaga was second in the 3,000 (10:16.85) and WSU’s Kristen Ogle was second in the discus (139-11).

In men’s results, WSU’s James Pate was second in the javelin (199-2) and GU’s Jon Neill finished third in the 5,000 (15:16.77).

Former University High athletes, now at Montana State, had big days. Misty Blakesley won the women’s discus (145-8) and hammer (154-2), while Emily Thompson won the women’s 3,000 in 10:21.71 and finished second to teammate Rachel Jaten’s 4:46.08 in the 1,500.

On Friday, WSU’s Kristin Liebich was 15th in the women’s 5,000 in 17:15.93 and the Cougars’ Ernie Ammons finished 18th in the men’s 3,000 steeplechase in 9:08.5 during the first day of the three-day Mt. SAC Relays at Walnut, Calif.

Saturday night’s results were not available at press time.

Flathead (Kalispell, Mont.) High’s Brad Treat, the Class AA state cross country runner-up, has accepted a track scholarship from WSU and will likely compete in the steeplechase or 5,000.

Treat finished 10th in the regional cross country championships in California.
