Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: I have heard of several people lately who accidentally put the contact lens cleaner instead of the saline solution in their eyes, thus hurting themselves, sometimes severely.

They were unable to read the labels before their contacts were in, and the cleanser and solution bottles look a lot alike, especially if they are the same brand. Putting a rubber band around the correct bottle would help, as they would be able to feel if they had the correct bottle before they could see it.

Hope this is of help. - Leslie Miles, Dallas

Good suggestion, one I hope will save a mishap. Another good way to label these bottles is with self-sticking notes and large red permanent marker. - Heloise

Dear Heloise: If you feed birds in an area that gets snow, put a few cement stepping stones under the feeders. The sun quickly melts the snow on the stones, allowing the ground feeders to eat easily. - A Reader, Olathe, Kan.
