Students Draw Posters For Poison Prevention

Compiled By Maisy Fernandez

Have you noticed the child-like drawings on billboards around Spokane promoting National Poison Prevention Week? There’s a great reason for their simplicity: they were drawn by children.

The best of 3,335 area entries into the national billboard poster contest from third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students and their schools were:

Third Grade: Dylan Gray, Chattaroy; Katee Nauert, Sunrise; Kendall Peterson, Mullan Road; Malcolm Soelberg, Freeman; Jami Bjorklund, Freeman; Heather Hoberg, Greenacres; Shane Lewis, Freeman; Peter Hawkins, Mullan Road; and Isaac Harmson, Jefferson.

Fourth Grade: Austen Zajonc, Freeman; Jill Miller, Colbert; Tiara Jones, Blair; Erin Bresnahan, Hamblen; Jaclyn Benson, Chattaroy; Lauren Nay, Freeman; Christopher Weddle, Ridgeview; Jacob Leenhouts, Hallett; and Anna Parr, Hallett.

Fifth Grade: James Lund, Ridgeview; Amber Knuth, Lake Spokane; Madison Brewton, Hutton; Marie Garbida, Blair; Brittney Lively, Blair; Christina Crowley, St. John Vianney; Trevor Hanson, Sunrise; Kassi Knitter, Hutton; and Max Kumangai-McGee, Trinity.

Jonathan Rascoff has been elected chairman of the Friends of the Centennial Trail. Other 1996/1997 officers are: Dean Moorehouse, immediate past chairman; Reginald Lee, vice chairman; Bill Simer, treasurer; and Sandrah Mack, secretary.

The Friends of the Centennial Trail is a non-profit corporation whose purpose is to assist and encourage the development and maintenance of the Centennial Trail, the adjacent state park development and connecting trails.

Kathy Cvancara, a student at ICNE, has received a $500 scholarship from the Amethyst Study Club. Cvancara, Genesee, Idaho, will graduate in December.
