Check Coins: You Might Get ‘Buffaloed’

Starting this week, look carefully at the change being handed out by local stores. There just might be a rare Buffalo nickel or an Indian Head penny mixed in.

Some of these coins will be put into circulation by the Inland Empire Coin Club as part of National Coin Week April 21-27.

Members have purchased nearly 500 rarely seen coins, $100 worth, and will use them to make purchases in the area.

There also will be a display of rare coins at the Argonne Library and the library at Fairchild Air Force Base, which is open to people with military identification cards only.

The display at the Argonne Library will feature ancient Roman coins as well as modern commemorative coins.
