Gonzaga Earns Split With Loyola Marymount

Back-to-back RBI doubles by Jason Uberuaga and Kevin Workman in the bottom of the sixth inning propelled Gonzaga University (14-23 overall, 2-14 in the WCC) to a come-from-behind 4-3 West Coast Conference win over Loyola Marymount in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday at August/A.R.T. Stadium.

The Lions (19-31, 12-8) took the nightcap 11-7.

Sunday’s first game was the completion of Saturday’s scheduled second game, which had been halted after one inning due to rain.

Matt Bailie went 3 for 5 with four RBIs to lead the Beavers over the Cougars in Corvallis, Ore., completing OSU’s sweep of the teams’ four-game series in the Pac-10 North Division.

Washington State (17-30, 4-8) led after one-half inning, victimizing Beavers starter Brody Percell for five runs. Percell, who failed to get an out, gave up a three-run homer to Jered Fowler.

Oregon State (24-11-1, 7-5) fought back with five runs of its own in the bottom of the first.

The game between the Warriors and the Pirates was rained out and won’t be rescheduled. The Whitworth/L-C State game postponed last Tuesday will be made up Tuesday at Whitworth at 3 p.m.

College softball

Community Colleges of Spokane went 2-2 at the NWAACC Crossover Tournament at Franklin Park. The Sasquatch beat Wenatchee 10-0 and Walla Walla 3-0, but lost to Clackamas twice, 3-0 and 5-0.

Big Sky tennis

In Boise, Boise State defeated Idaho State 5-1 to capture its second consecutive Big Sky Conference women’s tennis championship.

Idaho beat Eastern Washington 6-0, but finished sixth after falling 5-4 to Montana State. Montana beat EWU 7-0 for seventh.
