Charges of negligence against two International Ski Federation (FIS) officials in the death of Austrian skiing star Ulrike Maier were effectively dropped after the federation agreed in Munich, Germany, to pay nearly half a million dollars to Maier’s daughter.

Maier broke her neck in a crash at 65-mph during a World Cup downhill race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, Jan. 29, 1994.

A record 11 3-points against Atlanta last Thursday earned NBA Player of the Week honors for Orlando forward Dennis Scott. Chicago’s Phil Jackson was selected Coach of the Month.
