Unruly Teen Leads To Teachers Strike Threat

Compiled From Wire Services

A strike threat by teachers forced a special deal to be made Thursday for teaching a disruptive 13-year-old boy.

Richard Wilding had been expelled from Glaisdale School in Nottingham after a history of violent incidents that had led to four suspensions.

But his parents had appealed to a local education authority, which overturned the expulsion and ordered he be returned to the school.

That prompted a strike vote by 20 members of the Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers, who claimed the boy is unteachable and a threat to them and other pupils.

Under the deal arranged Thursday, Wilding will remain on the roll at Glaisdale, but he will be taught at a special unit for disruptive children for half the week and at home the rest of the time.
