Acting Up In Public Must Still Be All The Rage

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

Don’t look for politically minded rockers Rage Against the Machine to be invited back on “Saturday Night Live” anytime soon.

During their appearance on the recent show hosted by former presidential candidate Steve Forbes, the band was asked to leave following their first song after trying to hang upside-down American flags on their amplifiers.

Bassist Tom Bob, who reportedly tore up one of the flags and flung it at a member of Forbes’ party, ranted on about NBC being owned by GE, which made planes “used to commit war crimes in the Gulf War,” while guitarist Tom Morello said “SNL” producers “proved that they’re bootlickers to their corporate masters.”

In light of the flap over Sinead O’Connor tearing up a picture of the pope, the show does not allow musical guests to “dress” a set.

Loose talk

Sting, on his upcoming unauthorized biography (in Live! magazine): “Every celebrity in my position gets a seedy book written about them. So there’s one coming out about me saying that I’ve had sex and taken drugs. What a shock, you know?”

In four more years, this B-52 will be 52

Kate Pierson turns 48 today.

Guess she’s just a genetic material girl

Madonna told a Colombian newspaper that she has no particular plans to marry Carlos Leon, the father of her forthcoming child. So why a baby? “I have to work for someone in life,” she said. “I needed something that’s mine that I can be proud of.”

In other words, it wasn’t re-moat enough

Michael Jackson has indeed bought a French castle, but it’s apparently not the one previously reported. That chateau’s owner says Jackson was “very interested,” but decided the 40-acre estate was too small and too close to a nearby village. “For his security, Jackson needs at least 250 acres,” the landowner said.

Wasn’t he supposed to be the good son?

Jackson pal Macaulay Culkin called 911 after his father, whom the 15-year-old “Home Alone” star recently fired as his manager amid a nasty custody battle, slapped him in the face for refusing to clean up his room. Police referred the case to family court without filing charges.

Well, so much for his Lilac queen chances

Whitney Houston hubby Bobby Brown was charged with drunken driving after police pulled him over for speeding in his red Mercedes. Officers said a “hostile and belligerent” Brown, who was with another woman, refused a breath test and took three tries to recite the alphabet.

And she certainly knows all of the tricks

Celebrity hooker Divine Brown made an appearance at Thursday’s Manhattan premiere of her first movie, “Sunset and Divine: The British Experience,” but invited guest Hugh Grant was nowhere to be seen. Brown blamed Grant’s dalliance with her on his honey, Elizabeth Hurley: “You wanna hold your man, you have to know how to entertain him.”
