Cost Of Prince’s Visit To Canada Questioned

Compiled From Wire Services

Prince Charles ended his Canadian tour Monday with a helicopter trip to one of the poorest regions of the country, where some residents questioned the cost of his weeklong trip.

Landing outside the historic Acadian village of Caraquet in northern New Brunswick, the heir to the British throne chatted in French with people dressed in 18th-century period costumes. He even bartered for a wooden bucket, agreeing on $2, which was paid for by an aide.

Elsewhere in town, a group of seasonal workers protested the cost of the prince’s trip, estimated to be at least $1 million.

“What future do my two boys have when a government can spend to bring royalty to Canada when they have to go to bed hungry?” asked Claudia Park-Julien.
