Children Suspected Of Starting Brush Fire Near Liberty Park

From Staff And Wire Reports

Children may have set a fire Wednesday that came dangerously close to Spokane homes.

A neighbor alerted firefighters of smoke in the hills above Liberty Park at 1:20 p.m., said Gene Pehan, a battalion chief.

The brush fire charred one acre and came to within 500 feet of a home before being controlled. Children were seen in the area acting suspiciously just before the fire, Pehan said.

Also Wednesday, firefighters rushed to a fire in the woods near Joe Albi Stadium about 5:50 p.m.

That fire blackened 1 acres before being doused. , DataTimes
