Northwest Stars Claim Third Place

The Northwest All-Stars defeated Portland SEI 61-59 Wednesday and took third place in the BCI summer prep boys basketball tournament.

Luke Arthur led Northwest with 15 points as the All-Stars came back from a 14-point deficit in the second half against a team that featured four 6-foot-9 players. Northwest’s Jason Weatherred and Justin Bursch, both of Ferris, were named first team all-tournament players.

Legion baseball

Kyle Corra pitched a three-hit shutout as Kirkland Pepsi defeated Spokane Olympic Sports in AA American Legion state playoffs at Jackson Field.

Jared Starr hit a two-run game-winning single as Maxwell House of Spokane beat Burlington. In other AA playoff games, Vancouver edged Richland 3-2 and Okanogan Valley trimmed Yelm 7-6.

Olympic Sports faces Yelm today at 9 a.m. in a loser-out game. Vancouver and Maxwell House square off in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m.

Ryan Corigliano went 3 for 5 with four RBIs and scored twice as the Blue Devils whipped the Bandits 14-5 in the Spokane AAA Legion playoffs at Whitworth.

The winner advances to the State American Legion tournament. Aaron Hancock struck out six for the Blue Devils.
