Boy,12, Held In Rape Of Girl, Woman’s Death

Associated Press

Police on Thursday arrested a 12-year-old boy who they said took part in the gang-rape of a 13-year-old girl, then shot and killed a grandmother as she returned from church.

Police Chief Willie Williams took the unusual step of identifying Davon Murdock at a news conference Thursday afternoon, while Murdock was still at large, to alert the public that the child was considered armed and dangerous.

Police had received permission from a Juvenile Court judge to release the name of the child, who weighs about 70 pounds and is not even 5 feet tall.

Murdock was being held at the LAPD’s Southeast station Thursday night, Officer Don Cox said. He didn’t immediately release any other details.

Viola McClain, 82, who was called Mother McClain and described as “everybody’s mama,” was shot last Friday as she returned to her Watts home after church.
