Heavily favored Monimaker won her 13th straight race, taking over early and pulling away down the stretch to capture the $375,000 Hambletonian Oaks at East Rutherford, N.J.

Monimaker, driven by Wally Hennessey, remained undefeated in 1996. She won the race for 3-year-old fillies by taking the lead just before the half-mile pole, then held off a bid by Stacy Spice at the three-quarter mark and breezed to victory in 1:55-3/5.

Top-seeded Michael Chang ended Stefan Edberg’s run in Infiniti Open, beating the retiring Swedish star 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the championship match at Los Angeles.

“The scary thing about Stefan is that he can get his game going at any time. All matches against him are tough,” said Chang, who will face Richard Krajicek of the Netherlands.

Krajicek beat Australia’s Sandon Stolle 6-3, 6-1.

Former Boston Red Sox manager Butch Hobson, accused of possessing cocaine, reportedly admitted in court documents that he had used the drug.

If convicted, Hobson faces up to three years in jail and a $5,000 fine.
