Bomb Suspect Under Close Watch

Compiled From Wire Services

The FBI and the media persisted Wednesday in their round-the-clock stakeout at the apartment of Richard Jewell, the guard hero-turned-suspect in the Olympic park bombing.

An unidentified man carrying a small satchel entered the apartment late this morning and stayed for about an hour. Jewell remained out of sight.

On Tuesday, Jewell’s attorney G. Watson Bryant said metal fragments found in Jewell’s apartment were pieces of a fence. Earlier this week, the attorney said the fragments were souvenirs of the bomb given to Jewell by other Olympic guards.

The FBI has interviewed Jewell numerous times, taking fingerprints, hair samples and other potential pieces of evidence.
