Hope For Recovery Of Bodies Fades

Boston Globe

Investigators said Wednesday that they have given up hope of finding the remaining 35 victims from the wreckage of TWA Flight 800.

Divers have brought up 195 of the 230 passengers and crew members who were aboard the jumbo jet on July 17. But as Navy salvage ships continue to bring up wreckage, it is becoming less likely that many more bodies remain hidden.

Robert Francis, vice chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board, said families have been told and that they are “pretty understanding.”
