Letterman Nuisance In Jail Near Mom’s Home

Compiled From Wire Services

The woman who has been an unwelcome visitor at David Letterman’s home several times said from jail Wednesday that it’s just a coincidence she was arrested near his mother’s home.

Margaret R. Ray, 44, was arrested Friday in Westfield, 15 miles north of Indianapolis, after allegedly trying to steal vitamins and a backpack from a Wal-Mart store.

Letterman’s mother, Dorothy Mengering, resides in Carmel, a suburb bordering Westfield.

Ray said she was just passing through, hitchhiking to her home in Danbury, Conn.
