Shotgun Seized After Home Is Shot Up

A Valley residence was blasted with gunfire last week, shattering a glass screen door and riddling the place with holes.

No one was hurt.

A man living at the home in the 12400 block of East Skyview told deputies he was sitting in his basement watching television at 3 p.m.

Suddenly, he heard the sound of glass breaking.

The man went upstairs and found his back screen door in shards and several holes in his wall.

Deputies arrived and questioned four males, age 16-21, at a residence on nearby 27th. “They figured the blast had to come from a certain direction,” said sheriff’s Lt. David Wiyrick.

Deputies found and seized a shotgun as evidence. No arrests have been made yet, Wiyrick said.

“There’s a real potential for someone to be injured with all these firearms,” Wiyrick said. “It makes it real tough out there.”

Man arrested on gun charges

A man was arrested early Saturday morning after a witness claimed he saw the transient walking around with a rifle in his pants.

“That must have been the SKS rifle (deputies) found in his closet,” Wiyrick said.

Deputies arrived at a Valley motel on the 4800 block of East Sprague to find Amondo Luna, 19, and several others inside.

One of the deputies noticed the barrel of a gun sticking out from beneath a couch.

After checking the gun’s serial number, the deputies found that the pistol had been reported stolen in Stevens county.

“The little one had a flash suppressor at the end of the barrel,” Wiyrick said, referring to a device that prevents a gun from casting light when fired.

A 30-shot clip was found inside a box of pet food. Deputies also found a rifle.

“It was really set up,” Wiyrick said.

Luna was arrested for seconddegree unlawful possession of a firearm. Luna had been convicted of felony harassment in March.

Teenagers attacked

Three teenagers were attacked while they were on their way to the Hastings Books, Music & Video store at 11324 E. Sprague.

The attack happened 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Wiyrick said. The teenagers were walking in a nearby field when six men asked the teenagers to empty their pockets.

The teens didn’t have any money.

When the six attackers didn’t get what they were after, they beat up the victims. All three, ages 15 through 18, were punched several times in the head and upper body.

The attackers were described simply as Hispanic males with shaved heads, and wearing dark clothing. They were last scene running west from the corner of First and University.

Drug arrest

A 17-year-old was arrested early Monday, after deputies found a baggie thought to contain cocaine in his pocket.

A deputy pulled over the 1985 Nissan pickup for a routine driving infraction near Sprague and Fancher about 3:30 a.m.

The boy was driving with a suspended license, and also had an outstanding arrest warrant. That’s when the boy was handcuffed and searched.

He was arrested for the outstanding warrant and felony possession of a controlled substance.
