Kathy Mattea Plays Sandpoint Festival

Kathy Mattea, who plays the Sandpoint Festival’s mainstage at Memorial Field at 7:30 tonight, is one of the undisputed class acts of country music.

She makes pure American acoustic music, the best of folk, country and roots music combined.

Her music today is essentially folk-flavored, although unlike most folk music it gets played on commercial radio and sells millions of copies.

Her songs, imbued with her rich, warm alto, have plenty of meaning.

Her most recent album, 1994’s “Walking Away a Winner,” spawned the hits “Nobody’s Gonna Rain On Our Parade” and the title track.

The opening act will be The Cantrells.
