‘Independence Day’ Off Record Pace

The Hollywood Reporter

After blazing at a record pace through the $100 million, $150 million and $200 million milestones faster than any other film in box office history, “Independence Day’s” streak has been broken.

If estimates prove true, “Jurassic Park” will have narrowly held off the alien invasion at the $250 million plateau.

Tom Sherak, senior executive vice president of Fox Filmed Entertainment said, “All of us at Fox who are associated with ‘Independence Day’ are very proud to be in the same category as ‘Jurassic Park’ in reaching the $250 million mark in what people are calling 39 days.”

“ID4” should have hit the $250 million Friday, after 39 days in release, giving it the second spot behind “Jurassic,” which made it to the same level in 38 days.
