Business Bureau Warns Of Twa Scam

From Staff And Wire Reports

Consumers should watch out for companies soliciting charitable donations for the families of victims of TWA flight 800, the Better Business Bureau of the Inland Northwest warned Monday.

The TWA plane crashed on July 17 off the coast of Long Island, killing all 230 people aboard.

Though the bureau has not received any complaints yet, a warning was issued by its national office.

One company brought to the national office’s attention asks donors to send instant relief via a “check by fax” contribution form.

The BBB warns consumers not to provide checking or bank account numbers to unknown organizations.

Donors interested in giving to charities they’re not familiar with should check with the BBB for advice, said Lisa Stephens, president of the Inland Northwest’s BBB.

The BBB can be reached at (509) 328-2100 or (800) 356-1007.
