Medication Led To Death

Derek Smith, the Washington Bullets assistant coach, who died on a cruise ship with his family, was stricken by respiratory arrest, brought on my motion sickness medications, a preliminary report shows.

Smith, 34, died Friday.

His funeral is scheduled for Thursday in Louisville, Ky. A memorial service will take place today at Hogansville High School in Smith’s hometown of Hogansville, Ga.

Smith was a starting forward on Louisville’s 1980 NCAA championship team. He played nine seasons in the NBA.
