National Football League Getting New Web Site

The Hollywood Reporter

Starwave Corp. and ESPN Enterprises, which jointly operate the most-visited content site on the Internet - ESPNET SportsZone have teamed up with NFL Enterprises to develop a new Web site for the National Football League.

The redesigned 1-year-old NFL.COM site will debut Sept. 1 in conjunction with the start of the 1996 NFL season.

ESPN will bring news and information to the partnership while the 3-year-old Bellevue, Wash.-based Starwave will bring its technical development and operation skills to the site.

NFL.COM will be a comprehensive resource tool as well as a source for real-time game scores, play-by-play and statistics covered live from each stadium. The site will provide up-to-the-minute league news, team information and chat sessions.

ESPN and Starwave also announced that the 16-month ESPN SportsZone site was the most-visited content site on the Internet’s World Wide Web in May, according to an audit of 75 major Web sites by Internet and online marketing technology firm I/PRO. More than 300,000 visitors on average come to the site each day for sports coverage.
