Video Repair Store Destroyed In Blaze

From Staff And Wire Reports

Fire destroyed a downtown two-story house occupied by a video repair store late Sunday night.

Four Spokane Fire Department engines responded to the blaze at The Video Station, S. 164 Division, at 11:23 p.m. and found the building engulfed.

It took more than five hours to extinguish the fire. The building and much of its inventory was destroyed.

Fire inspectors had difficulty reaching the business owner, Richard Calvin, according to people at neighboring businesses. Fire inspectors did not return phone calls Monday and a cause was not immediately available.

The white wood-frame house was badly charred. Melted TVs and fax machines littered blackened tables.

An adjacent building occupied by carpet and drafting companies was slightly damaged by smoke and water. “If it had gone another five minutes, ours would have gone up too,” said Brian Farwell, occupant of an adjacent house.
