And Then, Of Course, There’s Always Teddy

We just can’t seem to let go of the Kennedys, America’s closest thing to a royal tradition.

Take the new book by Lawrence J. Quirk, for example. As reported by the New York Daily News, “The Kennedys in Hollywood”(Taylor Publishing, 400 pages, $24) alleges:

That Jackie Kennedy, aware of husband John F. Kennedy’s many affairs, called Marilyn Monroe a “vulgar slut,” said that Angie Dickinson was “out for reflected glory,” that Jayne Mansfield’s “brains were in her” chest and that Judith Campbell Exner was “a manipulator, common as dirt.”

As for JFK Jr., Quirk says that Julia Roberts “dropped” the magazine publisher following “a wild, sexy weekend.” Then Kennedy allegedly rebuffed Melanie Griffith when “she surprised him wearing only a towel.”

Loose talk

Director Jonathan Demme on the abilities of actor Kurt Russell (to Newsday): “Who else is out there who can play dramatic leads, romantic leads and action heroes? If you think about it, there’s no one else like him in movies right now.”

Let’s celebrate with pate de campagne avec baguette

Loni Anderson, the ex-wife of Burt Reynolds, whose fame first came when she starred in the television sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati,” is being sued in Los Angeles by Nancy Nelson. Nelson claims that she formed a corporation with Anderson to market a line of skin-care products but that Anderson refused to honor her commitments.

With that, Cruise’s suit was a mission impossible

The German magazine Bunte printed this: “Mr. (Tom) Cruise never stated that he was sterile or that he had a zero sperm count or said anything to that effect. Bunte has been advised that Mr. Cruise is not, in fact, sterile and that his sperm count is perfectly normal. Bunte has no reason to believe otherwise. Bunte apologizes to Mr. Cruise and his family for what must have been an embarrassing and upsetting occurrence.” With that, Cruise dropped his $60 million lawsuit.

She gets the house, but he keeps the closets

Seems everything is OK as Calvin and Kelly Klein prepare to amicably split. “They intend to make every effort possible to work out any issues between them,” a spokesman for the fashion designer said. According to the 1994 unauthorized Klein bio “Obsession,” however, Calvin was bisexual long before he married Kelly, his ex-assistant.

He stuck a feather in his hat and called it…

Fresh from the Republican National Convention: According to The Washington Post, Rep. David Dreier of California reports that “Jack Kemp is the first candidate who could do the macarena.”

Hey, but he doesn’t have to do it in high heels!

Asked whose job is harder, his or Vanna White’s, “Jeopardy” host Alex Trebek told Entertainment Weekly, “Mine. Not only do I have to know the entire alphabet, I have to be able to make up words and sentences.”
