Lightning Strike Knocks Out Power To Cheney, Medical Lake

A lightning strike knocked out power in Cheney and Medical Lake on Wednesday.

“We’ve been in the dark answering phones all day,” said Samantha Brooks of the city of Cheney Light Department.

Lightning damaged a transmission line in the Sunset Hill area around 10:30 a.m., Washington Water Power Co. spokesman Rob Strenge said.

Power was restored to Medical Lake by 2:30 p.m. Cheney and surrounding areas were back on line by 5 p.m.

Parts of the West Plains were also affected by the outage.
