Timberjacks Pound Indians, 13-3

Southern Oregon put an emphatic halt to Spokane’s modest three-game winning streak Wednesday night, dropping the Indians 13-3 in the final game of a their four-game Northwest League series.

Spokane takes the day off today before opening a four-game home series against Portland Friday.

The Timberjacks, as they did in Tuesday night’s 9-4 loss, once again spotted the Tribe an early lead. But this time they found answers - loud answers - in the booming bats of Juan Polanco and T.R. Marcinczyk, who combined to pound out six hits and drive in five runs.

Polanco, who had been 0 for 13 against Spokane this season, touched Indians starter and loser Jason Simontachi (1-3) for a run-scoring single in the the third and then blasted a two-run homer, his fourth, to highlight a three-run sixth inning.

Polanco scored three runs, as well, while Dionys Cesar and Troy Rauer also added home runs in support of Southern Oregon starter Jose Paulino (2-0).

Marcinczyk rapped a double and two singles and drove in a pair of runs to drop the Indians (25-31) into a tie for third place in the North Division standings, five games behind division-leading Bellingham (30-26).

Spokane scored a run in the first on a double by Jeremy Giambi and added another in the fourth on Kenderick Moore’s sacrifice fly.

The Tribe picked up their final run in the eighth, but by then the Timberjacks were in control, 9-2, and well on the way to earning a split of the eight-game season series.

The Timberjacks closed with four runs in the bottom of the eighth, the final two coming on Rauer’s home run.
