Rowers Rescued From North Sea

Compiled From Wire Services

Two Norwegians who tried to row across the North Sea were picked up by a fishing vessel Thursday.

The two men were “distressed and dehydrated” when they were rescued by the crew of the FV Helene, a fishing trawler, about 85 miles east of the Shetland Islands, the Coast Guard said.

The pair’s 19-foot boat was found earlier Thursday by the Norwegian coast guard.

The two adventurers set out from Karmoey in southwestern Norway on Aug. 7 to row 250 miles across the cold and often turbulent North Sea to the Shetland Islands.
