Wal-Mart Withdraws From Property Talks

Associated Press

Opponents of Wal-Mart’s plan to build a 133,000-square-foot store in Gig Harbor hope they have chased the giant retailer out of town.

But Bentonville, Ark.-based WalMart contends it is still interested in the 19-acre site in this Puget Sound community and will wait to see what might happen with the property.

Wal-Mart’s option on the land expired last month and negotiations for an extension with owner Billie Webber broke down, a company spokesman said.
