Ex-Arkansas Governor Won’t Help Prosecutors

Former Gov. Jim Guy Tucker, after asking a judge for mercy when he is sentenced, has no plans to help prosecutors in the Whitewater investigation, according to his lawyers.

Tucker and James McDougal are to be sentenced Monday in federal court on banking violations. McDougal’s former wife, Susan, is to be sentenced Tuesday. The McDougals are former business partners of President and Hillary Clinton in the Whitewater real estate development in north Arkansas.

One of Tucker’s attorneys, William H. “Buddy” Sutton of Little Rock, said Friday that he has no knowledge of any plans by Tucker to aid Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr.

“He’s never been asked to,” another attorney for Tucker, George Collins of Chicago, said Thursday. “He doesn’t know anything about anything they’d be interested in.”
