Driver Arrested After Three Injured In Wrecks

From Staff Reports

A Spokane man was arrested late Saturday after two separate accidents in the Spokane Valley sent three people to area hospitals.

Dennis Dhaenens, 26, was arrested at Deaconess Medical Center for vehicular assault, a Washington State Patrol trooper said. Dhaenens was being treated for injuries he suffered in the second crash.

Dhaenens, who troopers said had been drinking, reportedly hit a car at Bowdish and 32nd Avenue. He then continued on and rear-ended a blue Ford pickup truck, triggering a three car accident at 8:37 p.m. at Bowdish and 16th, troopers said.

Two occupants in a green Ford Taurus, which hit Dhaenens’ Ford Bronco head on, where taken to hospitals with minor injuries. A woman in the car reportedly was being treated for possible broken ribs. Troopers said seat belts saved their lives.

The pickup hit a chain-link fence at the corner of Bowdish and 10th Avenue after being hit from behind. The driver was not injured.
